What I Learned About Past Road Shutdowns

The American Trucker in general is a hero. They do a tough job for low pay that’s vital to the country. Still, every group has their instigators with agendas. I remember many years ago that it was popular for truckers to express their rage by shutting down highways by driving slowly side-by-side and not allowing others to pass. Their results were the opposite of what they wanted.

A driver at the company I worked for showed up on the news leading the traffic shutdown. Our embarrassed company fired him. I knew the guy well. He was of the mindset that he was right and that we had to do something. If I remember right, the beef was with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio State Highway Patrol in their abuse of power with corrupt inspection fines.

The average person didn’t even realize what ODOT does in relation to safety inspections with trucking. Making them late to work, having people dying in ambulances stuck in traffic, and generating mayhem just to “be heard” did nothing to help them understand.

That Was Then, Now It’s The Bay Bridge Over Middle-East Problems

One would assume that special interest groups would learn. The trucking slowdowns…
